Block Diagram
A block diagram gives you manual layout on a grid — you decide the
columns, widths, and placement, where a flowchart would decide for you.
kymo's editor reads the Mermaid
block-beta syntax.
This page works like a quickstart: as you scroll, the pane on the right shows the source and the preview for the section you're reading. Copy grabs the source; ▶ Open in editor loads it into editor.kymo.studio (pick mermaid in the diagram-type dropdown when starting from scratch).
columns N fixes the grid width; blocks then fill the grid left-to-right.
A :N suffix makes a block span N columns, and block:name … end nests a
sub-grid inside one cell span. space (or space:N) leaves cells empty.
The -beta suffix on the header is required — the syntax is still
stabilising upstream.
Block shapes
Blocks reuse the flowchart shape vocabulary: ["square"], ("rounded"),
(("circle")), (["stadium"]), [("cylinder")], >"flag"],
{"diamond"}, {{"hexagon"}}.

Connecting blocks
a --> b draws an edge between placed blocks — layout comes from the grid,
the arrows only connect. Combine with space cells to leave room for the
arrows to route through.

Status. Block diagram previews on this page and in the editor use the Mermaid renderer; importing block diagrams into kymo's own pipeline (native SVG/PNG/PDF rendering) is on the roadmap.
